Game #10!!!! Finally!!!! We're Done!!!
Since this is our last game of the season, we needed to commemorate it with the appropriate theme – prom week! Everyone on the team participated, so we had the girls in corsages and boys in boutonnieres! And these weren’t just any old flowers ….we specifically got dew-kissed ones for this special occasion.
Big props go to Mike “Bad Ass” McLean for wearing the pumpkin-hued bowtie, Darryl “Double D” for wearing the tux vest, Walter “Hot Stuff” Marquez for wearing the clip on bowtie, and Rick “Roadrunner” Radvansky for winning the cumberbund vote and sporting the cumberbund over his jersey!! You guys all looked hot! Hotter than Steve Sanders and approaching Dylan McKay territory!!!
And just when you thought that was as special as this week was going to get …. We saw Cindy “ruffles and satin are my friend” Cordova showed up in well … ruffles and satin!! And they were pink! Yay, Cindy!
So it took some time to set everything up, but the first thing I have recorded is a fairly non-descript first inning … a foul out, fly out, strike out … and then things get interesting when perhaps the most coveted guest of all time shows up!! The Chancellor is in da hizzouse! I am soooo not making this up. In fact, all kinds of BSEs are here! This is amazing. But to have the “Big Guy” … wow. Just wow.
So it’s the ‘Nuts turn to play defense and dazzle the crowd. CO In The Know leads things off with a nice catch that she totally jumped and reached for!! She celebrated with a cartwheel. You know, Richard West makes a good point that ever since Ozzie Smith left the league, there really hasn’t been anyone to combine fielding and gymnastics .. until Caron! It totally fills a void.
So I took some notes on stuff that happened, but let’s just jump straight to the good stuff! Jason Pischer homers!! Yay!! It’s the kind of homer where the ball leaves the yard … those should count for two runs! But the rules say it’s still just one run, so we’re now tied at 1-1. Nothing else much happens that inning except Patti specifically requests we refer to Mike as “Bad Ass”. And one doesn’t argue with Patti.
So Sharon “Pizza Mom” Okashima offers the Chancellor some pizza and he picks pepperoni. I’m just glad we didn’t order lasagna … with all those employee recognition lunches he’s been having, the poor guy is probably sick of the stuff!
This week we’re playing Glazer’s and they mercied us last time, but we’re hanging in there this week. Oops they just hit a 2-run homer. It’s still close though …
Now it’s our turn to bat and Rick gets on base. We are all pleased to see the cumberbund didn’t affect his aerodynamicity. Then Dawn is up, and if you are not seated, please sit down. Trust me on this one. Dawn …. wait for it ….. gets an RBI!!!! It was so hot and amazing! No one knew what to do! Way to go Dawn! And she was wearing a color! (Red!!!!)
So Alex, playing shortstop, was doing this thing where he would try to turn a double play, but forget to do one little part of it. Like one time he forgot to touch second base …. Then another time he forgot to throw it in Kara’s range at first … but then he finally turned one perfectly!!! It was Jeter-esque! He bowed and we were all happy.
So the next inning is started by Robert’s single, which is followed by Kara’s single, and then Sean’s single and finally Raquel’s single! We like totally scored a run with all of that hitting!! Then Walter did that thing where he gets really mad after getting out so we won’t mention it.
The next inning features another homer by Jason Pischer! Can you believe two in one game? That is so hot! He’s earning his 3.5 percent raise for sure! We were all busy celebrating and missed what happened next but Amy recaps it by explaining “I hit it there and they threw it there.” Thanks, Amy.
We’re on defense now and Darryl had a nice catch in right, then Raquel gave a totally dirty look to a Glazer’s baserunner which was totally hot, and then Alex ends the inning by making a nice catch opposite way. Good times! The score is now 13-5. (We have 5).
Marydale led off the next inning with a near single, followed by Alex’s official single and Dawn’s patented curtsey-before-strikeout. Rick beats out a single (he’s fast) and then Criselle amazes us all by making contact! This has soooo totally never happened before! She does her little skippy/gallopy trot to first but was called out. But her hair looked great and the dewy corsage really complimented her skin tone. And then she ended the next inning by catching a foul tip! She has no idea it was a spectacular play until everyone high-fived her and she was carried off the field like Rudy!! Way to go Criselle!
So the game is winding down and the ‘Nuts need a Rally Monkey-like rally! Kara singles, followed by Robert’s single, followed by Raquel’s single and Sean’s hit that scored two RBIs!!! Everyone is going ‘Nuts! Cindy is back to throwing firecrackers, the Chancellor is on his second bag of Cheetos, Lori Erdman is doing The Wave by herself, and strangers are hugging and dancing in the stands!! And we’re not finished yet!! Caron singles then Walter singles and racks up some RBIs before Amy winds things down in a double play.
So that’s how it ends. The ‘Nuts did an amazing job on the rally and nearly had it, but they just barely ran out of time. Remember, this was the team we got mercied by last time!! If there’s one thing we learned this year it was that the ‘Nuts sure made progress from week to week (except that really bad showing that no one can really explain against Yardrats). But now that the game is over we can get to the important stuff like taking official prom portraits and dancing the night away at LaPalapalooza!
So if you see them in the halls or the parking lot grab your 'Nuts and tell them what a great job they did this year!!!! And we'll see everyone next year!!!
