…Everybody loves a hukilau…only we were not catching fish…

BY CARON OBERG

(Long Beach, CA) -- Thursdays’ festive Hawaiian theme, brought to you by Sharon, Jill and Dori (mahalo ladies) came with all of the fanfare you might see at a luau!
I really hope you didn’t miss out on the Pineapples with secret sauce…holla!
Nuts fans and supporters looked great…they were all decked out in Hawaiian wear and everyone (including Blue) received a complimentary lei….that’s LEI people, get your minds out of the gutter!

Then, at 6:30, the real action began as our local Nuts 3 took the field against the Malihinis who called themselves, the Village Idiots. Nuts set the tone early as the Wahinis ruled the defense with Norma “slugger” Eaton making two outs at 1st, and Julie “Jester” Alonso making a spectacular catch in Roverland…the fans are already going crazy…and by the way look really hot…Somebody take a picture!

Mike “best hula in baseball” McClean leads off with a double, then Darryl, then Julie…all these doubles drive home 2 runs…and we are off to a great start…pass the Jell-O shots!

Inning 2, the Malihinis again take the field, and again it is owned by the Wahinis…Meaghan strikes out Idiot 1, then Idiot 2…then Idiot 3 is stopped at home…brought down by the Meaghan – Vicki defense…pass the Pineapple!

Vicki “Vixen” Kechekian leads off for the Nuts and singles, Robert “Robert” Eaton takes his base and somebody brings them in….was that you Gibby? Nuts are ‘en fuego’ with a 4-nuttin lead going into the 3rd…pass the chocolate covered macadamia nuts!

Finally…we see the Village Idiots make their attempt at a rally….whatever…they were just jealous because we all got leid and they didn’t … but by the end of the inning we were down by 1….bring in the McCleaner!

…and now…history folks…the Cleaner hits a home run, Meaghan singles, Darryl singles, J-Dawg hits a home run, Jeanine singles, Brian doubles, Robert takes his base and Norma singles…we are back on top and smokin’…where’s that Pineapple!

Now it’s top of the 4th…the Nuts only allow 1 more run and somewhere in there is a fabulous double play between Brian and Norma…the fans are going wild! Shout out to Kim the newest Nuts fan…and someone get her a Jell-O-shot!

Bottom of the 4th…my pencil is dull from all the writing action…but it’s not over. Gibby leads off with a home run, Vicki singles, Ben singles, and “Hula” McCleaner cleans up again with his 2nd home run of the game….work it! Then Meaghan singles, Darryl doubles, J-Dawg doubles….Jeanine grounds out but who cares cause did you see that hula at the plate? And we are up by another 5…pass what are left of the jell-o shots!

We squeeze in one more chance for the Idiots…just in time to see one of the best plays of the game…the Double D to J-Dawg bare-handed catch at 2nd…did you get that? It was hot…our Nuts are not afraid to bare-hand the ball…and it’s working for them.
We end the game victorious with a 14-6 lead. Hang ten Nuts Hang ten!

7:45…take your seats people, take your seats. Nuts 2 take the field against the Malihinis who call themselves, Hammered and Screwed…hmmm…lets ponder on that a moment shall we. Anyway…away we go. Alex is at the mound and gets a stike out, then another one, than there’s an Alex to Sin-D play at 1st for out number 3…and did you see Sin-D’s hand…that girl tough! Of course the Malihinis score 4 runs but we’re not worried…we have the best outfits in baseball…including Monique’s Hawaiian wrap showing the latest in 2nd base fashion…Holla!

Nuts lead off with a fabulous triple by Steve “what’s his nickname?” Stuhr, the inning also includes a home run by Duke “hey what’s his nickname too?” Low and another triple by Paul “Boo-Ya” Santana…we score 2 and it appears we are in for another spectacular game.

Inning 2 only yields 5 runs…The Nuts make some great plays including Steve’s awesome fly ball catch. Porter, Duke, and Sin-D “I love the baseline” Cordova’s double play and some excellent fielding by Monique. You look hot people…we’re only down by 7…pass whatever is left of either the Pineapple, Jell-O shots, and/or anything chocolate!

Jose leads off with a single and later scores to bring it up to 3-9…this is nothing the Nuts can’t handle…Hammered and Screwed try to do just that to us but we hold on…only allowing 4 more runs…while Jose picks off some girl who wasn’t paying attention, Alex catches a pop-fly and Duke throws to Kara for out number 3. Work it people we are down by 10…

Jorge and Sue single in the next round…but we can’t hold on as we are hammered and screwed again…hey those guys are kinda good….but we can take them! Kara “your hair looks hot” Perkins rules the defense in the 4th as she makes two outs at 1st, then Jorge throws her the 3rd…Looking good!

Top o’ the 5th…it’s rally monkey time…Paul singles and scores, Monique takes her base and Jose singles…hold on Nuts, hold on! And hold them we do…Steve makes another great catch for out number 1, Duke throws to Kara for out number 2 and Kara makes a catch for the 3rd…it’s our turn and we only need 12.

Alex “Marquez” Porter singles and scores, Dianna “D-Lite” Tavira singles and Rebecca takes her base…are we there yet? Blue calls it and we all head for the remaining Pineapple…but Monique summed up the experience with “we did better than last time” and you will do better next time!
