Take me out to the Ball Game: Nuts vs. Nuts' season opener

For those of you fortunate enough to have attended the Nuts season opener you were treated to Major League Night brought to you by team supporter, Lori Redfearn.

Players and fans came decked out in their favorite major league baseball garb to root for the Nuts…and…the Nuts! Things were off to a great start with a fabulous rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame brought to you by your loyal supporters…now…play ball!

Inning 1 set the tone as Nuts 3 players started at bat. Here’s a little summary of how things went…Rick “Kansas City” Fletcher leads off and is on base with a single, Meaghan “Herff Jones” (wait…what MLB team is that)? Smith lands a single, then Darryl “Dodgers” Dearborn” takes his base, then Jeanine, then Brian, then Julie.
Then Jason “where the heck is your St Louis hat” Ahearn hits a home run…nice hit Jay-dawg! And yes…the hits keep coming…but at this point I just plain old lose track…
The inning ends with all of the gents and most of the ladies scoring…and an impressive 18-run lead.

Now…as a former Nut I would have thought that an 18-point lead for any Nut team was about as likely as the U.S. winning Word Cup Soccer…but there it was! And…all former Nuts would agree this was a moment to enjoy. So…even though this lead was against well…us…it was fun to watch!

Now the Nuts 2 also have a lot to be proud of including Steve “U.S. Baseball Classic” Stuhr’s gloveless catch and throw to first, Sin-dee “Dodger” Cordova’s impressive debut in the field … holla! And coach Kara “the Mariner” Perkins’ double play from first to third. This team has some tough players…and now has the motivation to catch these guys in the rematch…(August 3rd…but who’s counting).

Now here are the real stats:

Dodgers fans in the house: 6
Angels fans in the house: 8
Who else was represented?
Seattle: 1
Cleveland: 1
Boston: 2
Kansas City: 1
San Francisco: 1
New York: 1
And a few miscellaneous tributes to: The CSULB Dirtbags, Adidas, the Dallas Cowboys, Corning (Pujols has been notified), ski resorts, and the color brown.

Most creative “ball” cap goes to: Ben’s hot Raspberry Beret
And…now for the best quotes of the game:
“Rebecca, marry him so we can keep him on the team” in response to Steve’s impressive triple – Lori Erdman

“This is your last inning…you need 14.” - Mike “the cool umpire” McBride informing the Nuts 3 of what they were up against at the end of the evening.

…And the big winner:
Alex “Dodgers” Gibson landed the big prize…two club level tickets with VIP parking to the Angels vs. Devil Rays…and hey…that includes in-seat service…Congratulations Gibby! Tell Rocco Baldelli we said hey!

Until the rematch then…see ya!
