Grad Night
Sometimes Material Just Presents Itself…Right?
Well…tonight our little Nuts graduate! Remember when they started this gig? So young….so innocent…we’ve watched them endure the bad calls…those slamming Longshots and the cheatin’ Feds…oh how proud we are! Now on Graduation Night we celebrate…don caps and more caps…hand out diplomas and raise a Jell-O shot to our seniors…who we know will go out into the world of next season and make us proud! Crank up the Pomp and Circumstance…hand out the yearbooks…let’s get this party started…after all we’ve got a bus to Grad Night waiting in the parking lot!
Kara’s Nuts are up first…she’s very proud that everyone kept their GPA’s up enough to make it here tonight…even Bill took his final exams and made a special appearance as a base coach…We take the field against the Feds…the team we love to hate…Duke wastes no time and makes the first great line drive catch of the game…Jorge makes another great line drive catch…and then I remember some girl Fed skipping and jumping around and over the ball….totally in the baseline of course…causing a commotion that almost distracted me from the real action! Duke and Blue coming together in the infield…not to discuss the ‘skipping’ Fed…but to resolve the tiniest disagreement betwixt them…some spectators say they were at odds about Who’s on First others say it was over who was taking whom to the prom…and even one other (very reliable) source said they were just trying to figure out who was the better singer…Jessica or Ashlee…
Anyway…thankfully we leave the field with all players in tact…and we’re up…the Monstuhr leads off with a freakin hot double…KP slams a single and The Duke crushes a double for himself…but not before he and Blue make nice for a few minutes…so he can again pitch his favorite singer…Ashlee…he even does the little Saturday Night Live Ho down dance she is famous for! Next up….Paul takes his base…and Jose “every time” also takes his base…at the end of the inning we have tied the Feds 4-4…holla!
Back to the field…and more Fed distractions…this time there is small child interference…I mean a baby on a softball field??? This is worse than the time Michael dangled his baby off the balcony! Come on Feds…we come to play some ball…keep the children off the field! Jose attempts to stop the madness with a throw to KP for 1…then the Monstuhr makes one of those “have mercy” catches that stop the over-confident Feds in their tracks…I LOVE it when that happens…then Jose makes a fabulous line drive catch for 3…the Feds are up by 3…but we’re about to slam them…hold please…here it comes!
Sean leads off with a single…Jorge takes his base…Steve slams a single…Duke doubles…Sue singles…Paul triples…and Sin-D takes her base…the runners were coming in one after the other! Some Fed must have been emotionally overwhelmed because he just HAD to hug Steve as he was heading for home! The Fed just stretched his arms out wide with some weird ass grin on his face…right there in the baseline…as if to say, “who’s you daddy?” Okay…now us fans up here in the stands have had about enough of this team’s antics…and apparently so had Blue…”There aint no hugging in baseball!” exclaimed one completely confused fan! Blue thankfully stepped up and threw this clown out of the game! It was hot! Finally we get justice…and then some!
We collect ourselves and take the field…Sean stops the first Fed with a strike out…the 2nd out was the result of the ‘hugging ejected’ Fed…and Jose makes a great catch for 3…we come through the inning with very few Fed distractions…but they are up by 2…lets send em’ packing Nuts…work it!
Jose leads off with a single…Dianna slams a single…Sean doubles…and we are tied…then class valedictorian Criselle steps up and crushes a single…with an RBI on top! You hot Criselle! We’ve got these Feds all worried now…they even got yelled at by Blue for not standing behind the Outfield line…every time with this team….every time!
We take the field again…Duke makes a nice catch for 1…Steve also makes another great catch for 2…and Jose throws to KP for 3…but not before more Fed drama…like the guy who tries to take 2 bases for his walk…and the girl fighting with her boyfriend in the dugout…and the other girl with the wardrobe malfunction…and the…oh forget it…you get the idea!
We up…and we need a few runs about now…off we go…Steve leads off with a single…I’m telling you…lose that bat with a twang! Duke slams a homerun for Ashlee and Paul triples…that’s not all…Sin-D takes her base…and Dianna singles yet again! We close with 4 more on the board…we have 15…and need to hold the Feds here…and shucks it would be nice to win this thing…
Off we go…Sean make the first catch for 1…it looks like so much fun to Duke that they decide to do-sa-do and switch positions…Duke sends the next Fed packing with a strike out for 2…and Steve makes another “have mercy” catch for 3…we a little behind now folks…but no worries…these Feds are out of tactics and look a little tired…let’s make it hurt!
Jorge is on base with a single…then Steve slams a double…KP hits a single and Sean singles…we manage 2 more runs but it is not enough to crush the Feds…they may have won the game…but they don’t get to graduate…they have to repeat a year and we are moving on…next year Nuts…next year!
It’s time for Darryl’s class to step up…they take on Hammered and Screwed who have that really loud guy who reminds me of Will Farrell…problem is he thinks he is as funny as Will Farrell…and…well…I beg to differ….anyway…Duke switches schools for this game and joins the graduates in the field…off we go. Duke throws to Double D for out number 1…then the Reaton to Neaton connection is born…for 2…and KP throws to BC for 3…H & S are only up by 3…lets hammer them for a change…
Cleaner leads off and takes his base…with some help from Julie and Duke…Mike scores and we take the field down by only 2…Double D makes this back-handed snatch catch for out number 1…totally hot! Then Duke gets the force at 2nd…and DD throws to Norma for 3…H & S got nothing and we up…
We take a time out so Duke can change his shirt…hold please…holding…okay all set. Off we go…Darryl leads off with a single…Meaghan slams a single…and Brian makes us Be-Lee-Ve with another single…we manage one more run and head into the 3rd only down by 1…now is NOT the time to get Hammered…hold em’ Nuts…hold em’!
We start things off with another Reaton to Neaton connection for 1…okay I totally love saying that! Then someone makes the 2nd out but I’m not sure who cause Bill and Kara were talking to me…but I do know that DD makes a great catch for 3…H & S only score 1…we are totally going to H & S them! I can feel it!
Our turn…Julie starts things off with a single…than Duke just taps it and the ball sales into Homerunville…Norma takes her base and Darryl singles…we tie things up by the end of the inning…take the field Nuts…and mean it!
During this inning…which I call the inning of Norma…Mike throws to Norma for 1…DD throws to Norma for 2…and Duke throws to Norma for 3…isn’t it nice the way they all take turns like that! Oh and we hold H & S to only 2 runs…turn out the lights the parties over…we are taking over the tools this time!
Brian leads things off with an un-be-lee-ve-able single…Raquel joins in and singles…Reaton singles…and Cleaner singles…we score 2 more and enter the next inning with a 6 – 6 tie! But somewhere we left the toolbox open and they took their hammers back…cause they stole another 9 runs despite our great efforts…Mike started things off with a strikeout…then Duke throws to Norma for 2…and Mike throws to Norma for 3…our turn…
Now every game has its really great moment…and Duke’s homerun into the trees was just that! Did you see those branches falling all over the right fielder?? Birds and squirrels were running for their lives…I even thought I heard someone yell, “timber!” Yes it was a beautiful thing! He gets his diploma early! Norma is up next and she wants a piece of the action…she uses one of the branches to replace the bat with a twang and slams herself a single…then DD crushes a double and Brian steps up with a single…Raquel keeps it going by taking her base…Reaton is on with a single…and Vicki singles…lots of good action for us fans…thanks Nuts! Unfortunately we head for the ceremony with the loss…but still a good score…10 – 15…remember…we’re graduating and leaving Will and the rest of the building crew behind! Holla!

The first Reaton to Neaton connection.
The first player ejection on our clock…holla!
The first “homerun to the trees” ever! The trees can take it…let’s see more of those!
The first time Duke played for both teams.
The first time Duke and Blue realized how much they had in common….or didn’t have in common.

Number of times Duke changed his shirt: 17 according to KP

We return to softball on September 14th for the Nuts World Series…Can we survive the week? Don’t miss this friendly rematch…game time is 6:30…holla!
